About the area

The Community Health Center of the New River Valley is a 501c3 non-profit organization that is committed to providing affordable and high quality medical, dental, behavioral, and preventative health care services to people of all ages, regardless of ability to pay or insurance status.  Our three Centers are located throughout the New River Valley and nestled along the Appalachian Mountains of Southwest Virginia.  With the mountains and river a short drive away, the area offers a familyfriendly atmosphere with hiking, fishing, farmer’s markets, festivals, and other outdoor activities. In addition to outdoor activities, our area offers wonderful parks and recreation departments for children and adults in organized sports, camps, and activities.

Dental Residency Program Coordinator 

The Community Health Center of the New River Valley is seeking a full-time Residency Program Coordinator for a planned Advanced Education in General Dentistry program at its Christiansburg clinic.  This is a 40-hour per week position, with the possibility of partial hybrid work arrangements during the first 18 months.  

This professional position will report directly to the Residency Director and assist them with the development of the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) Self-Study and Accreditation Application.  They will compile or produce all necessary documents for the application: Narrative, Exhibits and Attachments.  They will arrange and orchestrate the CODA Site Visit and follow-up activities.  They will arrange meetings of related staff and committees and perform activities related to Resident recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and on-boarding. 

Once Residents are active, the Coordinator will construct and oversee daily Resident education and schedules, working with individual Residents to overcome any barriers to successful completion of daily responsibilities.   They will coordinate evaluation activities and oversee data collection. They will produce all necessary CODA and funder reports and assist with grant writing for residency growth and sustainability.

At a minimum, the candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in a human service or health-related field, and three years of experience in project management and/or team leadership.  

Excellent written and oral communication is required in this role.

Dental office experience is not required, but preferred. 

Salary commensurate with management experience.

Dental Patient Access Assistant – full-time – 9:30a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday – Friday

The Community Health Center of the New River Valley is seeking a full-time (40 hours) Front Office assistant in its dental office in Christiansburg.

This position is the first to encounter patients and must do so enthusiastically – greeting them with courtesy, respect, and positive communication. This role is responsible for the registration of incoming patients in a prompt manner to avoid delays in arrival time and to ensure a swift check-in process. This position is also responsible for verifying patient demographics and insurance coverage and making changes as necessary, collecting patient payments, scheduling appointments, and answering the phone. 

Qualifications: – at least 1 year of experience in a dental office environment; Associates degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred or equivalent combination or education and experience. Preference given to those with federally-qualified health care experience.  Bonus provided for bilingual candidates who are hired

Dental Assistant – Monday – Friday, Christiansburg

We are seeking two full-time chair-side Dental Assistants for our Christiansburg Center. This is a Monday-Friday, 8-hour/day position.

Duties include: assisting dentist with patient management during dental procedures, documenting patient information, materials prep, prepares/maintains dental equipment, sterilization, taking vital signs, charting and inventory. Maintains infection control in operatories, equipment and lab.

Must demonstrate good communication skills, positive attitude and be able to work in a team environment; ability to travel to the other two offices as needed.

Must have high school diploma/GED, 3 – 5 years’ dental office experience, dental x-ray certification, current CPR certification and knowledge of electronic health records. Preference given to those with a Dental Assistant certificate and multiple years of experience.
