You have the right to receive an “Estimate of cost of services” explaining how much your healthcare care will cost.
Under the law, the CHCNRV must give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for healthcare items and services.
- You have the right to receive an estimate of cost of services for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, and equipment.
- Estimate of cost of services is made in writing at least one business day before your appointment. You can also ask the CHCNRV for an estimate of cost of services before you schedule an appointment or service.
- If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your estimate of cost of services, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to an estimate of cost of services, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call the Community Health Center of the New River Valley and ask to speak with the Billing Supervisor (540) 921-3502.
